Bulging veins on your hands or ropey, blue and purple varicose veins on your legs are unattractive and can make you look older than you are. Fortunately, we offer expert vein treatments, so you don’t have to live with unsightly hand and leg veins.
What causes bulging veins?
Bulging varicose veins are usually because of weakness in your vascular valves. Your veins have tiny valves that help push blood back to your heart. When these valves are weak, your blood flows backward and pools, causing swollen veins. The problem usually occurs in your legs, as your blood has to work against gravity to travel back to your heart.
The problem can occur in your hands and arms, too. However, bulging veins in your hands are also caused by your genes, phlebitis (vein inflammation), superficial thrombophlebitis, and deep vein thrombosis.
Before we start any treatment for bulging veins in your hands or varicose veins, we perform a thorough exam to assess your vascular health and diagnose the cause of your condition. Depending on your needs, we suggest the treatment that we think will best close your veins and restore the appearance of your skin.
State-of-the-art vein treatments
We offer a wide range of treatments to help you get rid of unsightly bulging veins on your hands or thick and ropey varicose veins. Our procedures are minimally invasive, and we provide comprehensive care before, during, and after your vein treatment.
Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is a nonsurgical treatment for varicose veins that doctors have used since the 19th century. During a sclerotherapy appointment, we inject a sclerosant into your bulging vein. The chemical closes the inside of your vein, then the swelling cuts off the blood supply, and the vein drains, seals, and is absorbed into your body.
Radiofrequency ablation
Radiofrequency ablation is a minimally invasive treatment that uses heat to cauterize your bulging veins. We use radiofrequency energy to generate heat to close your weakened veins.
Ambulatory phlebectomy
During an ambulatory phlebectomy, we remove your varicose veins in a minimally invasive surgical procedure. We typically use ambulatory phlebectomy on large or bulging veins.
Taking care of your veins after treatment
We simply cover your incision or injection site with a bandage. After any vein treatment, you need to wear compression stockings. The pressure from the compression garments helps keep your treated veins closed while they drain, and your body absorbs them.
It also helps to walk around for 10 minutes or so every hour. Walking encourages healthy circulation and improves your blood flow through healthier veins back to your heart.
